Who We Are

The team in MB Focus Laboratories is under the leadership of Dr. Jan (Young) Bao.

Dr. Jan (Young) Bao has more than 20 years of academic and industrial work experiences in mycology and microbiology, including nearly 6 years as microbiology lab director for an environmental testing company.

Dr. Jan (Young) Bao earned his doctorate degree from UWO, Canada, specializing in systematic mycology and molecular biology. He served or is still serving as university professor, senior clinical scientist for a world-leader medical diagnostics company, and fellow scientist in both universities and governmental research centers of Israel, Holland, Canada, and the USA, and published more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters. Dr. Jan (Young) Bao also supervises, conducts, writes, and implements R&D works, validation of lab developed testing, implementations, accreditation programs, and SOPs for companies.

As a principal investigator, Dr. Jan (Young) Bao supervised several national and international research projects on fungal systematics, molecular genetics, and R&D projects. Dr. Jan (Young) Bao has given numerous lectures and presentations on indoor environmental fungi and scientific research outcomes. He is an active member of several professional organizations, such as

America Society of Microbiology,

International Society for Human and Animal Mycology.

3. The company reserve the rights not to accept or conduct certain types of testing, and the rights to explain the terms and conditions.

 

We detect, identify, investigate, and characterize microorganisms, e.g. fungi (molds and yeasts) and bacteria, in environmental (e.g. IAQ), food, pharmaceutical, and agricultural settings. MB Focus Lab scientists conduct related R&D projects to advance techniques.

It is required to submit your sample with an appropriate Sample Submission Form/Chain of Custody (COC).  Please download appropriate submission form or chain of custody below, fill the form, and send the samples along with the sample submission form.

Get Your Result Reports

Typically, you will get your result reports in PDF format via your Email address. The hard copies will be sent by mail. If fax is needed, please contact the lab. Click "Report Example" here to view the format. 

New to the Lab

You are advised to follow the guidelines below when submit samples.

1. All samples must be accompanied by proper documentation. Download the sample submission form at the website links. Your own sample submission form may be acceptable.
2. All samples must be clearly labeled and identifiable with the information provided on the Sample Submission Form/COC. Please specify sample volume, analysis requested, turnaround time desired, and preference for reporting.
3. Samples should be sealed individually to avoid cross-contamination of samples.
4. Samples should be adequately packaged to avoid leakage of liquid, breakage, or other physical damage to the contents.
5. Samples for direct microscopic examination (e.g., Air-O-Cell, tape, bulk, etc.) can be shipped at ambient temperature.
6. Cultured plate or bottle specimens should be sent to the lab ASAP, ambient temperature or cold, but never frozen.
7. Raw samples for culture-based analysis should be in the lab in the same day, or kept with ice packs in a cooler and shipped overnight, especially for bacteria. 
8. For weekend sample receiving and analysis, please contact the lab first.
